The remediation and demolition ofthe LFS oil tank was  part of a general  plan which envisaged the construction of a new cogeneration plant in the same industrial site. The intervention concerned  the tank and all its mechanical hardware, its platform and the containment basin up to the ground level.


The activities wereconducted in full compliance with the existing rules and regulations in force and have been carried out in various stages:


  • On-site inspection in order to verify the  actual condition of the plant’s various facilities
  • Drafting of the intervention’s  plan
  • Implementation of the remediation activities including the cleaning of the oil tank(confinement, sludge removal by suction with the use of solvents, manual scraping of in tank’s interior walls and washing with a high pressure pump and washing with high pressure pump)
  • Transportation and disposal of the residual liquid waste to an appropriate disposal site according to the European Waste Catalogue (EWC dated 05.01.03)
  • Issuing of a gas-free certificate for the area affected by the intervention
  • Demolition of the tank, and the supporting structures including pipes, ladders, stairs and passageways and collection of all metal waste
  • Demolition of all the remaining structures and hardware located on the site’s ground and of the concrete containment basin
  • Demolition of the booster pumps’ room and removal of all pumps and electro-mechanical hardware to an authorized site
  • Permanent restoration of the area.
